Windows NT

What is the "NT" short for in Windows NT?

The "NT" in Windows NT was originally officially short for "new technology." However, today "NT" is no longer considered an acronym.

Released in 1994, this was the first Windows OS to support 32 bit programming model of the 386, 486, and Pentium processors. The support for long filenames also appeared for the fist time. It provided advanced security features, advanced network support and user administration, which made it a first choice for many in the business environment.

Two Versions of Windows NT:

In fact, Windows NT contains Windows NT Workstation and Windows NT Server two versions.

Windows NT Workstation

  •  Windows NT Workstation only supports two processors.
  • As a network server, you can connect to no more than 10 clients to complete limited network service functions.
